The Piner Award is given annually to the top linebacker in Nassau County, recognizing exceptional defensive dominance, leadership, and impact on the field. In 2007, Alex Rivas earned this honor by showcasing relentless pursuit, hard-hitting tackles, and an instinctive ability to read the game.

Rivas anchored East Meadow’s defense with 215 tackles, 32 tackles for loss, and 5 sacks, proving to be a force against both the run and pass. His ability to anticipate plays, shed blockers, and deliver game-changing hits made him one of the most feared defenders in the county.

Rivas carried a 101 weighted GPA, scored over 1200 on the SAT, and ranked 44th out of 409 students at East Meadow High School — all while excelling as a two-way football star.
